  2. Daily transmission starts in 1965. (Doordarshan)
  3. National telecasts introduced in 1985.
  4. PAS I & IV satellites used by Doordarshan to telecast globally.
  5. Cable Video channels mushroom in 1988-89..
  6. CNN broadcasts GULF war in 1990 -91.
  7. First Indian Sattelite channel launches with 4 hour broadcast in1991.. ZEE TV.

90's to 00's

  1.  Independent cable networks start to downlink satellite channels.
  2.  Corporate MSO concept Siti Cable launches - 1995.
  3.  Hathway, Incable, Ortel other corporates enter the MSO arena.
  4.  Foreign Broadcasters Star, Viacom, Turner, BBC, ESPN launch in India.
  1.  Indian Broadcasters SONY, Sahara, SUN, Eenadu launch channels
  2.  DTH service launches in India , Oct 2006... DISH TV.

  1. Households – 275 million (27.5 cr.)
  2.  Television homes -  180 million (18.0 cr.)  
  1.  Cable TV Homes – 140 million (14.0 cr.)
  2.  DTH Homes – 35 million (3.5 cr.)
  3.  TV Households growth 8-10 % annually.
  4.  Cable Household growth 14-16% annually.
  5.  Estt. 515 satellite channels of which 150 are Pay.

  5.  CAS Introduced since Sept 2003.
  6.  DAS proposed to be introduced (July '12).

Phase I  :- 4 Metro's (July '12).
Phase II :- Bangalore, Hyderabad, Vizag, + 35 major cities of India(Mar '13)
Phase III:- Other Urban areas (Municipal Corporations/Municipalities) (Mar '14)
Phase IV:- Rest of India (Dec '14)
